Some facts on Sexual Assault

• Any kind of "marriage" entitled the male to the exclusive access to a certain woman at mostly any time, which probably also accounted for status, aside from sexual satisfaction. The woman got protection from other rapists out of it, thereby limiting the danger of getting assaulted by more than one man. And thereby, woman probably became the first real possession of man. This was also the reason rape first appeared in any written law: it appeared as a violation of another man's ownership; it established slavery, ownership and the dominion over women. ¹
• Rape is the ultimate proof of failure for the "offended man"; therefore, in some cases, it is a message from one man to another, at the sufferance of a woman. The woman becomes living proof of defeat, making her insufferable to the man in some cases, cutting her off from the care she might need after the crime.^1,2
• The typical rapist is little more than an aggressive, hostile man who chooses women as his victims.¹
• The idea of the woman as a commodity, and the man as her owner is taking to extremes in rapes that end in "making the woman useless for others", demonstrating the man's ultimate power by turning her into a throwaway item, ramming a broomstick or a broken bottle up her genitals or shooting her in the head.³
• The existence of prostitutes does not prevent rape. In war, there are always men who prefer to rape.⁴
• Anonymity between violator and victim are an important issue since it is easier to play down the humanity of an unknown person.¹
• Those who are part of the ruling class can act within the realms of custom and morale since it is easy for them to achieve/acquire what they want non-violently. The frustrated and dumb sub-culture on the other hand is quite ready to employ physical violence; violence and aggression tend to turn into a life-style, especially for young men.⁵ This machismo is the sine qua non for status, credibility and identity in the lower classes (who have all to gain and nothing to lose but the credibility with the peers), and machismo is little but sexual aggression.⁶
• The act of a "gangbang" furthers an alliance between men ("male bonding") that is directed against a woman that for this purpose becomes "anonymous", an object,¹ which "would confirm that the sexual relationships and feelings present during the sexual asault were mostly a relationship between the boys and less one between the boys and the assaulted girl."⁷
• In the "gangbang" type of assault, the victim is sometimes addtionally humiliated by excretionary acts which "seem to be aimed at gaining or upholding credibility by emphasizing the 'values' of toughness and despite for women who count as nothing but a sexual device." ⁸
• "In 2/3 of the cases, you get to hear things like: 'They framed me.', 'Okay, so it was a little rough, but that's what she wanted.', and 'It's possible I did it, but I was too drunk for me to remember.'" ⁹
• In child abuse, nine out of ten victims are girls. 97 % of the offenders are men.¹⁰
• Ethnological studies of faraway cultures explain rape with machismo, the idea of owning women and as a means of social control to subdue women. These are the same functions rape also has in other parts of the world, at least in the private and public fantasies of men (who largely define the society and culture in question).¹
